KEEP IN MIND
- Record the selected server and version.
- Use the tutorial to learn the panels.
- Read before spending another turn in a changed situation.
- Return to the host that holds the character.
Follow the official play entry
The project homepage links its online servers. Use that route and note which server and release you select. Stable and development versions can coexist. A command, mechanic or character option described in one version’s guide may differ from the version another server is currently running.
Begin with the tutorial
The repository recommends the tutorial as one starting option. Use it to locate the map, character statistics and message area. You are learning how the interface reports the consequences of an action. There is no need to settle on an advanced character plan before you can reliably read those regions.
Pause repeated input at a new threat
Crawl is turn based, so a new visible situation deserves a fresh decision. As a starting habit, stop holding a movement direction when something changes. Read the recent messages and inspect the relevant threat before continuing. This makes it easier to connect a lost resource or changed position to the turn that caused it.
Use the running game’s command help
The quick-start guide documents command help with ? followed by ?. Its historical introductory advice should be read alongside the active version’s help and manual. Avoid treating an old species list, item explanation or remembered key as universally current. Report the actual server and version when you ask for help with a run.
Keep a character’s host with its name
A WebTiles character is stored by the chosen service under that server’s rules and identity. Saving a link to this profile does not copy the character. Learn the host’s save-and-quit behavior early, and return to that same server rather than assuming a similarly named account elsewhere will reopen the run.
