BOX PUZZLE / ROUTE PLANNING

Sokoban: plan the pushing square first.

Getting a box near a goal is only part of the route. You also need room to stand behind it for every push that follows.

KEEP IN MIND

  • Find the square you must stand on for the final push.
  • Trace a walking route to that square.
  • Check the next push before committing this one.

Work backward from a goal

Choose one goal and imagine the box on the adjacent square before its final push. Mark where the player would need to stand. This backward planning is an editorial exercise based on the game’s pushing rule. If a wall occupies that standing square, that direction cannot supply the final push. Look for another approach before moving the box.

Separate a box route from a walking route

A clear corridor for a box does not guarantee access for the player behind it. After each imagined push, trace how you would reach the standing square for the next one. Another box can block that walking route even when the target box still has empty space ahead. Plan both paths together.

Inspect corners before using them

A box pushed into a wall corner cannot normally be pulled back out: this game’s documented action is pushing. A corner that is itself a goal has a different role from an ordinary corner. Avoid a blanket rule that every corner is forbidden; ask whether the box is finished there and whether it obstructs another route.

Treat a goal as space on the board

Finishing one box too early can occupy a passage needed by another. Before committing it, inspect the remaining boxes and the player’s access. This is why a move toward a goal can reduce your options. If a temporary position keeps a shared route open, consider it before filling the nearest target.

Use moves and pushes as different feedback

The project documents time, move and push tracking. A longer walk can still support a cleaner sequence of pushes. During a learning attempt, focus on identifying the irreversible decision rather than optimizing every footstep. Compare attempts on the same level; totals from unrelated layouts do not measure the same task.

Choose a small exercise and keep its context

The project documents a level selector, arrow keys, on-screen directional controls and automatic progress saving. Use a familiar layout to practice standing-square planning. Return to the same host and browser for progress; a saved guide link does not export the level state, and no file backup is established by this documentation.
