The Curse of the General Sibling Combinator.

The Curse of the General Sibling Combinator is a browser roguelike from the 2019 seven-day challenge. The creator documents an unusual implementation: CSS drives the interface without JavaScript, while PHP generates individual levels. Open the original host to use the generated game. A static copy of the repository alone is not equivalent to the running server and its level-generation step.

Use the running generated level

The README distinguishes the CSS interface from PHP level generation. The original host supplies that server step. Downloading an HTML or stylesheet file alone does not establish that all levels will be generated correctly. Use the project’s play link when you want the actual published game rather than an implementation example.

Follow the interface’s available actions

This game’s implementation differs from a typical JavaScript canvas roguelike. Read the controls offered by the current level and observe one change at a time. This profile does not infer a complete keyboard mapping or touch support from the absence of JavaScript; those are separate usability questions that require the actual game interface.

Preserve the technical context

The distinctive feature is documented in the source: no JavaScript for the game interface, with PHP used to create individual levels. That is useful context for understanding a loading issue or studying the project. It does not imply that every browser will render it identically, nor does it establish portable saves or offline play.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Before the next click.

Is it really implemented without JavaScript?

The creator documents CSS-only game implementation, with PHP generating the levels.

Can I run it by copying a single file?

The documented PHP generation step means a static file copy is not equivalent to the original running host.
