Prepare behavior before starting
The manual separates planning from the heist itself. Once the action starts, direct influence is limited to pausing and resetting. Spend the planning stage checking each person’s location and ordered tasks. Leaving an important action unstated does not invite a hidden tactical intelligence to fill in the missing instruction.
Task order can suppress later actions
A person picks the first task that can be performed. The manual’s example places running away before shooting, which prevents shooting whenever escape is possible. Read a list from top to bottom when diagnosing behavior, and change one priority at a time so the next run can show which order caused the difference.
Location and equipment constrain the plan
Roofs are isolated and cannot be left, while walk-through buildings have doors and windows. Equipment also has limits: a person may carry multiple items, but weapons and horses have their own cap. Read those constraints before assigning a task that depends on movement or an unavailable tool. The manual notes that collecting gold requires an explicit collect task.

Can I steer a character during the heist?
The manual says direct control is unavailable after starting; you can pause or reset.
Why did my party never collect gold?
Inspect whether a Collect gold task is assigned and whether earlier executable tasks prevent it from being reached.
